About MCHPP

The Macon County History Preservation Project (MCHPP) is a community-centered initiative dedicated to preserving, documenting, and sharing the full story of Macon County, Tennessee—both through historical research and hands-on preservation work. MCHPP collects and safeguards historic photographs, documents, maps, artifacts, and oral histories while also researching the people, places, and events that shaped the county’s identity. Beyond archival work, MCHPP leads physical preservation projects such as cemetery cleanups and restorations, historical site maintenance, and the protection of endangered local landmarks. The organization also builds educational partnerships with schools, libraries, and civic groups to provide programs, classroom materials, student engagement opportunities, and public presentations that bring history to life. Through digital archives, video content, community programs, and collaborative preservation efforts, MCHPP serves as a bridge between past and present—ensuring Macon County’s heritage is not only remembered, but actively protected, taught, and celebrated for generations to come.
