America 250 Student Engagement Project

The America 250 Student Engagement Project is a county-wide educational initiative created by the Macon County History Preservation Project to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
Designed to engage students at every grade level, this project invites young learners to explore American history, civic values, and national heritage through creative and academic challenges tailored to their age group. From coloring contests for early elementary students to history fairs and essay competitions for older students, the program encourages critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper connection to our shared past.
Students across Macon County can participate in one of five divisions:
Pre-K - 1st Grade – Coloring Contest
2nd - 3rd Grades – Coloring Contest
4th - 5th Grades – History Fair
6th - 8th Grades – Essay Contest
9th - 12th Grades – Essay Contest
Entries will be evaluated by college and university professors, bringing a professional academic perspective to the judging process. Winners will receive cash prizes and commemorative America 250 coin sets, recognizing both achievement and participation in this historic milestone.
Launching in February and concluding in late March, the America 250 Student Engagement Project is more than a contest—it is an investment in education, civic pride, and the future of Macon County. By connecting students with history in meaningful ways, this initiative ensures that America’s 250th anniversary is remembered not only as a celebration of the past, but as an inspiration for the generations to come.
